Trauma and EMDR
Largely regarded as the "gold standard" on understanding the effects of trauma, Bessel Van Der Kolk's work creates a thorough yet digestible framework by which to view the treatment of trauma. This book was foundational in developing my understanding of trauma, both as a client and a clinician.
I was given this book by one of my EMDR trainers, and it was absolutely essential to me as a clinician as I conceptualized how to integrate EMDR into my practice. I believe that this book would benefit both therapists and clients who are interested in learning more about EMDR. Laurel Parnell (author) writes in a very personal style which makes this an easy read.
Developed by one of the most renowned trauma experts, Janina Fisher provides an educational tool to visually demonstrate the effects of trauma in the form a flip chart. While I use this material in session as a clinician, many of my clients have purchased it for themselves due to its benefit.
Written by a former Air Force psychiatrist, the author (Dr. Elizabeth Stevens) details her own journey through trauma. In this book, she shares her struggles to navigate a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subsequent sexual abuse, and how she has used these experiences to assist others in the healing process.
